2009 Recipient - Michael Olear, MSW
Michael Olear will be honored with the Jerry Flaschner Humanitarian Spirit Award at the Network in Aging's "Summer Event" being held at the Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffalo on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 from 12:00-2:00 pm. Michael has been an associate broker with MJ Peterson since 1987. He is a 2007 Graduate of the University at Buffalo School of Management's Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership. He holds a master's degree in Social Work from the University of Buffalo and a BA in Philosophy from Wadhams Hall College, Ogdensburg, New York.
Michael is very involved in the community. In addition to his service as a Network in Aging Board Member, he is on the Board of the Alzheimer's Association/WNY Chapter and serves on their Development committee.
Michael has addressed a need in our community for a real estate service that addresses the unique needs of older adults and their families. He uses his social work background together with his tremendous real estate and marketing skills to help home owners who have changing housing needs. Michael embodies what the essence of the Network in Aging is all about - developing a strong web of relationships with professionals who can be called upon to help older adults. He provides information seminars with others in the Network in Aging. He also developed the Executor Support program to help people who are in the situation of selling a home for another person. Like Jerry Flaschner, Michael uses technology efficiently to help him perform at a high level. He is constantly communicating and linking people together. He chairs the Network's Communication committee and has been instrumental in getting the Network's new website up and running.
In addition to all of this, Michael is a loving family man, active in his church and a lot of fun to follow on Facebook! He has seemingly endless energy (like Jerry) and looks at problems as opportunities for growth.
