2007 Recipient - MultiDisciplinary Coordinating Council on Elder Abuse
The Network in Aging is proud to announce the 2007 “Program Award of Excellence” was presented to The MultiDisciplinary Coordinating Council on Elder Abuse, established in 1989. The MDCCEA consists of representatives from law enforcement, social service, the judicial system and the health fields. Their goal is to clarify policies and procedures and to provide education and training on elder abuse and mistreatment in a collaborative effort involving various disciplines to provide public awareness campaigns and training conferences with the hope of reducing elder abuse.
Benefits of the program for the aging of WNY include: PEACE (Preventing Elder Abuse through Collaborative Efforts), SAFE (Safety Awareness for the Elderly), the Senior Assistance Team of Grand Island, and a Train the Trainer project for In Home Provider Agencies on Elder Abuse and Mistreatment. The MDCCEA also participates annually in World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) as well as sponsoring a panel discussion on elder abuse, ageism in our culture and a global view of elder mistreatment in Erie County. The MDCCEA has greatly contributed to the WNY community by continuing to provide on going training on elder abuse and policies and procedures. The work of the MDCCEA reminds the community that protecting our most vulnerable neighbors is the responsibility of all community members and in order to offer this protection we must work together. Western New York is lucky to have such a strong, organized and committed group of people like the MDCCEA to lead the way.
