6/1/2010 - Schofield Receives Approval to Expand Adult Day Health Care Program Capacity
Schofield Residence has received approval from the New York State Department of Health to expand the number of clients it can serve in its Adult Day Health Care Program, announced Edward J. Gray, Schofield Residence President. A certificate of need, filed in 2009, received approval on March 17, 2010 to expand the afternoon and Saturday sessions from 45 slots to 60 slots.
The program is the largest Adult Day Health Care Program in Upstate New York with the capacity to serve over 200 clients.
“Schofield’s Adult Day Health Care Program provides care to frail elders and disabled individuals who otherwise might need nursing home care,” said John Malicki, Schofield Residence Administrator. “The purpose of this program is to help people maintain their level of health and stay in the home of their choice.”
The Schofield Adult Day Health Care Program operates on the third floor of the Sheehan Health Network building located at 425 Michigan Avenue in Buffalo. The Program operates a morning and afternoon session on weekdays and one session on Saturdays.
“Adult Day Health Care is a program that helps people who otherwise qualify for nursing home care to remain in the community and receive needed health care services,” said Mr. Malicki. “The program provides health and rehabilitation services aimed at maintaining or improving the participants everyday functioning. It also reduces emergency room visits and hospitalizations while providing education, support and respite for family member who are caregivers.”
Founded in 1910, the Schofield Residence is a community-based, not-for-profit organization providing nursing home care, medical model adult day care and a long-term home health care program. Schofield is also affiliated with Schofield Home Health Care Services, Inc., a licensed home care services agency and the Schofield Residence Foundation, which supports the programs and services of the Schofield Residence and Schofield Home Health Care Services.
